“The Richard Whitehead Foundation is grateful to UK Ekiden for its generous donation. We believe that people worldwide should have access to sport and physical activity, which has far reaching benefits for individuals and communities. People who are active are healthier and happier. They have more confidence and greater self-esteem, supporting increased inclusion and access to opportunities in society. But disabled people are twice as likely to be physically inactive compared to those without a disability.
In 2021, Paralympic Gold Medallist, Richard Whitehead MBE set up the Richard Whitehead Foundation to help disabled people be happier and healthier. He wanted to use his passion and experience to inspire others to get active and achieve their ambitions through sport and physical activity.
We work with people who are facing physical and emotional challenges and who without intervention would likely remain inactive. We support disabled people to become more active and involved in their communities and achieve whatever goals are right for them.”
