We are delighted to announce all the teams participating in the inaugural FT Nikkei UK Ekiden.
Split into three categories; universities, companies and running clubs/UK Japan community groups, there will be 20 teams running the picturesque 74-mile Thames Path route from Oxford to Windsor for the inaugural UK Ekiden.
The teams are as follows: FT Nikkei teams, Arcus, Mizuno, Daiwa Capital Markets, Nikko Asset Management, YU Life, Momiji charity, Team Paris Marathon, Namban Rengo, JET Programme – with Runner’s World, HMG Japan Desk “Building the Future” team, Royal Air Force Medical Services, Henley Rowing Club, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Loughborough University and Birmingham University.
The long-distance relay race will challenge runners to run their leg of the race as fast as possible, whilst promoting teamwork, as each runner passes a Tasuki from one to another, embracing the historical Japanese tradition of relay racing. This year’s UK Ekiden race holds special significance as it is being held in celebration of the world-famous Hakone Ekiden, which marked its 100th event in January 2024, as well as a visit from Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan to the UK the same week.
Funds will also be raised by participating companies for their respective charities, as well as a final sum will be awarded to a charity in the UK and in Japan chosen by the UK Ekiden.
Good luck to all the runners!
